Q: I like the look of my Botox™ and Collagen, but I don't like the fact I have to maintain the look by re-injecting every 4 to 6 months. Are there any permanent options?

A: Yes. For the creases in the face and forehead fat injections can give a permanent result. For the lips, using your own fat in combination with alloderm can result in a permanent enhancement. What is Plastic surgery?

The surgical specialty or procedure concerned with the restoration, construction, reconstruction, or improvement in the shape, form or function of body structures. The word "plastic" comes from the greek word plastikos, which means to shape and form.

Am I a good candidate for cosmetic surgery?

This question can only be answered only after a consultation with Dr. Dry. There are many elements that need to be considered when choosing to have an elective procedure. During the consultation, Dr. Dry will discuss these elements which may include medical conditions, life stress, health history, obesity, and motivation.

What is the fee for cosmetic consultations?

Consultations are complimentary.

How can I be sure that the plastic surgeon´s surgical facility meets safety standards?

All surgical facilities need to have accreditation by a national governing body. We are fully licensed and accredited by the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAAASF), www.aaaasf.org. This means that we employ the same high standards that are expected in a major hospital.

How can I be sure that my surgeon has adequate training?

It is highly recommended that patients find a doctor who is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, the only board recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties to certify a surgeon in plastic surgery of the face and of the entire body. Certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery is "the gold standard" for plastic surgeons because it signifies that the surgeon has had formal training in an accredited plastic surgery residency program. Dr. Dry is Board certified. To verify a surgeon´s certification status, contact the American Board of Plastic Surgery at www.abplsurg.org or the American Board of Medical Specialties at www.abms.org.

Why is it important for my plastic surgeon to know detailed information of my personal health history, even if I am only having a simple cosmetic procedure?

With any elective surgical procedure there may be risks. Dr. Dry will discuss the risks, options, alternatives, and potential complications that could result from the surgery. By providing a full and complete personal and family health history to Dr. Dry, this may help in reducing some of the risks.

What kind of anesthesia will be used during cosmetic surgery?

Not all procedures require the same type of Anesthesia. The Anesthesia may vary from straight local, light sedation, to a general anesthesia for which the office is certified.

Before any type of general anesthesia is used, the surgeon and anesthesiologist must take a full medical history. For certain patients a physical examination and lab tests may also be performed. Your surgeon needs to know if you have any serious medical problems or have had previous adverse reaction to any other type of anesthesia. For your safety, you are obligated to let the anesthesiologist know about any medications you are taking (including herbal supplements), any known drug allergies, when you last ate and whether you smoke cigarettes, live in a household where someone smokes, or use alcohol or illegal drugs.
